My love for reading books is nothing new. This love started when I was young, before I can really remember actually. I use to watch my dad buy new books from Barnes & Noble and wait until he was finished to get my chance to read whatever he had picked out…this is probably where my preference for mystery, crime, and legal-suspense novels came from. Before an age at which I probably should have been reading the likes of Stephen King and John Grisham, I had re-read The Shining and The Pelican Brief. At the beginning of the Summer I made a short ‘Bucket List’ of sorts and on it was to read 10 books. As of this past Sunday afternoon, I was able to cross that off my list! Below are the 10 books I finished {you’ll definitely notice a ‘girly’ trend in most of them, but I tend to reach for ‘lighter’ books while I’m laying out and/or traveling} and a quick clip on what I thought of a few of them!

1) The Nightingale — SO GOOD. Not usually one to read about WWII but I couldn’t put this down. The story is based on a real Belgium woman and although the story itself isn’t ‘true’ the book heartbreaking, frustrating, eye-opening and overall a MUST read. It makes me beyond thankful to not have to have endured anything like that and in awe of women who went through hell and back at the hand of the Nazis.
2) The Luckiest Girl Alive
3) Big Little Lies
4) The Girl on the Train
5) Lord of the Flies — This was the 3rd time I’ve read this and it proved to be just the kind of ‘quick’ break I needed from the mostly female-focused books I had been finishing. It’s an oldie but a goodie!
6) Born to Run — My Chiropractor recommended this to me back in May after a knee injury kept me from running the Half Marathon I had trained months for. It’s a true story about author Christopher McDougall’s following of an ancient Mexican Indian tribe and their ability to run hundreds of miles, barefoot. Though it started off a bit slow, I loved how it made me rethink both my running technique and my reasoning behind the mileage I put in.
7) Not That Kind of Girl
8) We Were Liars
9) Killing Pablo — My love of crime & mystery was fulfilled. This is the true story of the manhunt (and capture) of Colombian druglord Pablo Escobar. The story follows the 15-month trek and the details were fascinating. {At least to me, who’s a bit obsessed!}
10) Brain on Fire — Wow. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s a whirlwind of real life events and follows Susannah Cahalan’s battle with a bizarre, basically unknown medical condition that could’ve turned fatal. Cahalan’s intense story-telling made me nearly feel what she was feeling and mademe truly wonder about what Doctors really do, and don’t, know.

Anyone have suggestions for any great Fall reads? I’d love to here! xox
