Sometimes I feel the need to break up my all black looks.

Not often though because black-on-black and then some more black is kind of my obsession. In my mind it is the easiest way to look classy and put together with minimal effort. And we all know I’m all about being just about as minimalistic as possible. Side note, my computer is trying to tell me minimalistic isn’t a word–sooooo either I made it up or my laptop needs to get with it. Anyway, sometimes I choose to introduce a color into my blacked out outfit and yesterday I went all out by adding my second favorite color: grey. Totally stepping outside of the box, huh? 😉 I tried really hard. If it’s broke, we’re not supposed to fix it, so I usually end up sticking to what I do best.

Investing in timeless basics.

A few years ago I finally cut ties with the mentality of buying more but buying cheaper and instead made the decision to start investing in classic items that I would be able to wear season after season and for than just one year. About the same time I discovered Vince and from that point on, it has been one of my go-to brands. Their quality is fabulous and while the price-point is far from cheap, I’m confident that anything I buy from them will last me a very long time. The ‘Little Boy’ tees, this black turtleneck and this tank are are layering pieces that I wear almost daily, while Vince sweaters and coats {this trench is next on my list!} are items I have to do some saving for before pulling the trigger. When I do, they’re completely and totally worth it though!

Grey over black.

This silk + cashmere cardigan is a closet staple for me; it’s perfect for throwing on over anything from a cami + denim to a shift dress for the office. It’s surprisingly warm and cozy despite it’s lightweight nature and the pockets are an added bonus. I was rushing around to find something to wear to church and immediately gravitated to black on black but I knew I’d be chilly so I finished it off with the cardigan. These denim are a little more casual than I like to be for a Sunday service, but I’m obsessed with black destructed denim right now {this frayed hem skinny is on its way to me right now!} so I thought if I added a pump and dressier top I could pull it off. When all else fails, back to the building blocks I turn.

Now I need to start figuring out how to conquer this Monday…espresso shots & a nap are in order. xox
