Halloween is only 3 short days away!

Truth be told, that statement would’ve had me so much more excited during my high school and college days. As I’ve gotten older I’ve basically become the Grinch of all things Halloween. My desire to dress up/go to costume parties is relatively non-existent and the thought of spending $100+ on candy to pass out to the neighborhood kids is even less appealing. Yes, I probably sound like the most boring person and rudest neighbor, but I can’t help it! HA! Maybe when Kyle and I have kids I will reconnect with some love for the end-of-October holiday {lets hope so for the kids’ sake!} but I can’t go making any promises. I feel like it all boils down to the fact that I try to adhere to a strict 9ish bedtime–grandma status & not ashamed–and most of the events don’t begin until after dark. Oh how my priorities have shifted since those glorious house parties in Ames! 😉 This year however, I attempted to lose the Scrooge-ness and at least give y’all a not-at-all-Spooky, kind of chic Halloween look.

My attempt to be somewhat festive.

Over the last few weeks I have been on the hunt for a cute, affordable top that would work for Halloween but that afterwards I could at least wear around the house and/or to bed. Of course when you’re looking for one specific item, you can’t find anything remotely doable. When I did see an option I was willing to buy, it was either in an XXS or XXL and everything in my size was blah. Thank goodness for sisters, though! Having 3 younger sisters has been loud & hectic but it’s also been absolutely fabulous. Three out of the four of us can almost universally share clothes and while we hoped Janae would be able to join that club, it’s not looking too good because she is TINY and it appears she will likely stay that way. Anyway, last weekend I was visiting Haley & Palmer and was able to steal THIS super cute skeleton sweatshirt from her that is now LESS THAN $5. Uhmmm, hello amazing. Plus it’s black which is basically the color of my soul during this particular holiday so it was a major win for me. Pairing the cheeky top with my new favorite black denim {currently on sale–I went up 1 size!}, black boots and this Gucci shoulder bag that I also stole from Haley, and I felt like I did a pretty good job of appearing to put in some effort this year! This would be the perfect outfit to wear while following your kiddos around that are going out Trick-or-Treating, to an adults-only bash with some dramatic makeup or even to the Pumpkin Patch this weekend!

Speaking of the weekend…what are YOUR plans!? We’re off to the Des Moines area for Kyle’s cousin’s wedding so be sure to follow along on Snapchat {kristinkruse} or Instagram {@amidwesternmix} to see what I’m wearing!! xox
