Bright red? Heck yes!

All the praise hands for today being Friday! Also I’ll use some praise hands for the color red. Why I don’t have more red in my closet, I’m not sure, but after wearing the bold hue I’m convinced it provides instant cheerful vibes. So this weekend I cannot wait to just chill out. A 7 mile run is on tomorrow morning’s agenda but other than that and a quick Target run, OTF on Sunday and church, I have zero plans. Hallelujah! My closet and our pantry/refrigerator could use some ‘Spring’ purging and while I know I’m a little bit early for it, the upcoming weekends are insanely busy so it might be now or never. Kyle is shockingly going hunting tomorrow which means he’ll leave around 4am and be back around dark which leaves plenty of me time. Not complaining! 😉

Curve-hugging Midi Dress.

Now onto the main reason for today’s post: THIS cotton midi dress. It is SO good. I’ve had my eye on it for nearly a year but wasn’t convinced it would look right on me. At just under 5’5″ I feel like I’m limited with some trends, especially midi dresses and cropped denim, so I was nervous that this would be a hard no. When a $20 Nordstrom Note popped up in my account a few weeks ago I thought it’d be the perfect time to give this dress a shot. All along I had thought I’d want it in the navy {Nocturnal} but at the last minute I went for the red and couldn’t be happier with my choice. Honestly it took me about an hour of walking around the house in the dress to talk me into keeping it but I think I made the right decision. I’m not one to wear fitted clothing and would usually sprint away from something that’s fitted from top to bottom so seeing my figure so prominently from every angle had me super self-conscious. Then I realized that maybe, just maybe, I could step out of my comfort zone and own the way I looked in this dress and my mentality completely shifted. Almost instantly I felt ‘hot.’ Anyone who knows me knows I never feel that way about myself, let alone would I say it out loud so I’d call this a big step for me! Once I embraced the way the dress hugged my curves and accentuated certain places {while graciously concealing others!}, it was love. Love for the dress but more so for my own body. It’s likely that we could all benefit from a more positive view or outlook of our own bodies, so ladies I encourage you to think of the GOOD things. If you need a little extra push, order this dress and you won’t be disappointed.

Perfect date dress.

Yesterday I mentioned that our Valentine’s Day plans were super low key but I’m almost reconsidering so I have another excuse to bust out this dress. It’s absolutely perfect for a date night with your main man but it also could be dressed down a bit for brunch with a pair of studded sandals and denim jacket. Add a statement necklace, pumps and long line cardigan and I think you could get away with it in an office–though I’d suggest one of the more subtle color options for work. If I had to complain about one tiny aspect of this dress it’s about the bra situation. Ideally I’d like to have some slight padding or lining in the chest area so I could go bra-less {it’s just a bit too thin for me to feel comfortable sans-bra!}. Thankfully I have this bralette in a handful of colors and I liked how the lace peaked through just a bit around the shoulders; I did try it with my strapless bra and didn’t love the look so I plan to try out a sticky one next. What are your thoughts on this dress?! For only $88 I think it’s a staple in every girl’s, regardless of shape/size, closet!
