Bring it on, May!

I’m back, I’m refreshed and I’m ready to tackle this month with tons of positive energy. Taking last week off from the blog gave me a chance to recharge and I’m so excited for some awesome collaborations, exciting news {not on the baby front–but someday SOON, fingers crossed}, a few fun trips and lots of great looks coming over the next few weeks and months. I’m also beyond happy to be home sweet home for 10 days straight after the back-to-back trips to Toledo and then KC for work. In the course of 8 days I spent barely 30 hours at home, so sleeping in my own bed with my own pillow has been about the most fantastic feeling ever. Since we’re now into the usually sunny and cheerful month of May–uhmmm how is it already May though!?–I thought I’d take today to highlight my five ‘May Musts.’ As we approach temperatures that should be steadily rising, patio Happy Hour season, bonfires, concerts, etc. it’s also the time to add some Spring/Summer staples to our wardrobes. Of course I had a hard time choosing just five pieces I think every girl needs at the moment so you can be sure each of these are definite favorites of mine. Let me know if you agree with my picks as well as what you’re loving for May!

Vintage Denim Cut-offs

Raise your hand if you ride a major struggle bus when it comes to finding great denim shorts? I honestly would put up 100 hands if I had them. Finding cut-offs that aren’t too short or too long, that look lived in but not frumpy, are stylish and cool but also appropriate for me in my late 20s and that I want to wear on repeat is next to impossible. Gone are the days of dropping $30 at Hollister {ok, lets be real those shorts there were usually too short to get my parents’ approval anyway} for jean shorts and now is the time where I feel like I can afford to spend a bit more on quality. Over the past 3 Springs I’ve invested in a few pairs that I know will last me until I hate my legs enough to avoid shorts forever. This year, my fabulous find are THESE babies by AGOLDE. They’ve got an incredible vintage vibe and the length is literally perfect. The 90s cool-girl feel is totally in at the moment and these cut-offs play so well with that edge. I went with my usual size but probably could’ve gone down 1 for reference! I’ll be regularly rotating them with my favorite Rag & Bones from last Summer and these new arrivals.

Bow Sandals

Bows on your toes! How stinking cute, right?! Sure it may seem a little bit young but the style is so fun for Spring and it draws attention to that pedicure you just got–or are in major need of! 😉 Whether the bows are big or small, they’re all the rage right now. I personally believe that bigger is almost always better and in the case of bow sandals…give me bigger! The moment I saw Sam Edelman come out with a pink option, I couldn’t click ‘buy’ fast enough. Kyle isn’t a fan but I cannot tell you how many compliments I’ve gotten from random strangers while out and about. This particular pair is definitely a conversation-starter and are my go-to slides at the moment. Strongly considering on getting a second color option! {I feel like they run about 1/2 a size small so I’d encourage you to try these before ordering if you’re a little uncertain on your sizing!} Also loving these, these and these as fun options to add to my closet, too.

Straw Hat

Sun damage is so 2007. Or at least that’s when I didn’t think twice about exposing my face to the sun for the entire Summer with minimal sunscreen because I’ll never get wrinkles or pre-cancerous moles. Jokes on me but at least it didn’t take me too long to figure out good skin is in style no matter what year it is. Insert my love of cute hats these last few years for fashion and functional purposes and the moment I saw this adorable Brixton Joanna Hat I knew it had to be mine. I went with the XS in Honey and it seriously goes with everything. It feels/looks more expensive than its $44 price tag and can act both a little dressy and super casual. If you’re in the market to splurge, THIS straw hat is on my wish list, but if you’re looking to save even more, you can’t go wrong with THIS one either.

Striped Jumper

Stripes. Always and forever. Stripes on a jumpsuit? Even freaking better. My love of jumpsuits stems from the fact that all you need is a pair of shoes and you’ve got yourself a complete look. The bathroom situation isn’t the most ideal but besides that, they’re brilliant. The crisp white with narrow navy stripes gives the cropped length and comfortable fabric a great Spring/Summer vibe and you can’t beat a price-point under $100 {I snagged it 40% off because Loft always seems to be running some kind of great sale!}. Add a pump and blazer to make this jumper wearable for work or pair gladiator sandals and a bright crossbody for brunch with the gals.

Mustard-colored Tank

Have you noticed how hot this muted yellow shade has become?! I swear everywhere I look the color is popping up on bags, sandals, dresses, you name it. While I love it in every form, I’m probably the biggest fan of it on tank tops. Unfortunately I think some girls are a bit afraid of mustard but I find it to be super flattering on nearly every skin tone. It pairs so well with white skinnys, under a denim jacket or tucked into a complimentary pencil skirt. It’s a vivid, statement-making shade that isn’t overtly bright or bold but acts as a great palette starter or layering piece! A few of my favorites are this flowy spaghetti strap option, this sleeveless sweater {both of those I have}, this OTS cutie and this shell.
