It is no secret to anyone that a majority of the country is experiencing frigid temperatures and snow storm after snow storm. With the days constantly cloudy and no end in sight, I cannot help but crave SUN. I mean I’m in some need of massive quantities of Vitamin D! Who’s with me!? It’s like a continuous cycle of hot showers, warm beverages, fuzzy socks, and extra blankets for me and I am so over it. If I wasn’t required to leave my house on a daily basis, maybe it wouldn’t seem so brutal, but the walk I have from my car to my office building is basically a giant wind tunnel. Combine single-digit temps and a below-zero windchill and you’ve got a recipe for tons of fun! 😉

Yes, the above paragraph was a rant about my current residence. I am thankful that we get to witness the changing seasons but in my opinion the particular season we are in lasts much longer than necessary. Enter a saving grace of living in the Midwest: COATS. Take a peek into my closet and one would probably roll my eyes {don’t feel bad, Kyle does regularly}about the number of coats I own, but I kid you not when I say they all are different and serve very important purposes. There a coat for rainy days, one for snowy days, and one for windy days. There is a coat for below-zero days and days I have to dress up despite my preference to stay in my PJs. Then there are a few more that aren’t quite as practical and that’s ok. Below I’ve rounded up my personal favorite coats for Winter. 8 of the 10 I listed I personally own and LOVE, while the other 2 are in my online cart waiting for me to rescue them and give them a new home in the Arctic. Oops, I meant Nebraska!

1) Long Puffer Coat – A no-brainer to keep you as warm as possible, a down-filled puffer coat that hits at least mid-thigh or longer is a must. I have been wearing this black one nonstop since I got it 3 weeks ago. It’s well worth the investment and incredibly cozy!

2) Lightweight Puffer Coat – On days when it spontaneously ends up being in the upper 30s and sunny it’s nice to give the heavier coats a rest and lighten up for the day. I am completely obsessed with this Burberry jacket. It cuts the chill but doesn’t make you feel overheated. Major splurge yes, but it is a classic piece you’ll have forever.

3) Colored Wrap Coat – I like having a pop of color on blah days, so once this wrap coat went on sale I scooped it up immediately in the Country Apple color. The cowl-neck can be worn as a makeshift hood and the length is great for the office or casual wear.

4) Neutral Wool Coat – Every girl needs a camel-colored wool coat. It’s a staple and you’ll have it for years. I picked up this one last year and it’s now on sale! It is the perfect dress coat for the office and I love the length. I detach my hood but the fur makes for a cute detail.

5) Waterproof Trench – For the days when it’s not quite cold enough to snow but it’s raining cats and dogs, I reach for my Truffle-colored MK trench that I got about 3 years ago. I cannot find it online anywhere, but this is super similar. It’s warmer than it looks and it keeps me dry. I love that it’s practical and pretty at the same time.

6) Teddy Bear Coat – So this is one category that I don’t own just yet but I have thisadorable, cuddly, and uber-soft jacket in my shopping cart and I’m just waiting for a Poshmark sale to clear the bank before I make the purchase. Like the Colored Wrap Coat, the Teddy Bear Coat is a fun alternative to the usual suspects, plus it adds a touch of girly!

7) Leather Jacket – This is a year-round essential but it made my list nonetheless. I actually have a few faux leather jackets in various styles, but right now this is my favorite one. If you’re ready and willing to spend the $$ on a real leather option, this one is TO DIE FOR.

8) Raincoat – Different, in my opinion, than the Waterproof Trench, I think a real raincoat is a necessity. My favorite is not fussy, fancy, or showy but it keeps moisture out and the water quickly beads up and falls off the moment you get inside. It comes in a ton of colors so you really can’t go wrong! {I own the Tofino Blue since it matches everything!}

9) Suede Jacket – I’ve been searching high & low for the perfect suede to add to my closet. I finally came across this one and am obsessed with the unexpected color. Sure tans and blacks are great options but the navy is gorgeous and totally won me over. It’s in my cart!

10) Fleece – Being cold all the time usually means I end up wearing my coat around the office half of the day, so I went searching for a comfy fleece that could fit under a puffy coat but also act as a sweater/jacket that was less bulky. I hit the jackpot with this one. The punch of color cheers me up and the fit is perfection.

Here are my runners up in each category: Long Puffer, Light Puffer, Wrap Coat, Wool Coat,Trench, Leather, Raincoat, Suede, Fleece.
