We made it to Friday!

Seriously though, this week was a complete whirlwind for me. I feel like I accomplished a million things but also did absolutely nothing. Traveling the first part of the week for work wiped me out and last night we got to my parents for a long Labor Day weekend getaway. Some R&R is definitely needed! I had hardly any time to pack for the 3.5 days so I stuck with basics {plus a few fun pieces, of course} so that I could easily mix & match depending on what we end up doing. I feel like ‘basics’ could be my middle name. Not that that is a bad thing, it’s just a fact. Comfortable and versatile basics are the building blocks of every outfit I put together and while some people go cheap on their basics, I’m totally fine investing in them. Besides the usual suspects of a great dark skinny jean, black boots, black & white tanks, blazer and cashmere cardigan, I think plaids are also classic basics that can be worn year-round.

Good plaid shirts aren’t easy to find…

While you can find plaid shirt options anywhere from Target and Forever 21 to Nordstrom and Neiman’s, quality and style are not nearly as easy to come by. I’ve been a huge fan of the Rails brand for a few years now but the price tags always make my stomach drop just a bit when I buy them. Despite me having about 8 of these shirts in my closet, I’ve been missing a classic red & blue patterned print so I have been looking for one to add to my collection for Fall. Ironically enough at that same time, Blume and I connected about working together and they had the PERFECT piece for me. This plaid is soft, lightweight and its subtle color palette made it a no-brainer. Plus when something I know I will get a ton of use out of comes in under $50, I have no need to justify my purchase to Kyle–or myself! 😉 When styling this outfit I went a bit outside of my usual realm where I’d do simple, destructed denim and booties and went with a soft grey denim, sandals {it is still Summer after all} and one of my favorite felt hats. Perfect for a casual but fun weekend look.
