I know I’ve been complaining about the temperatures the last few weeks but HOLY CRAP it’s freaking FREEZING. I’m typing this as Alexa is telling me ‘the current wind chill is -29*.’ Like how is that even a thing!? Putting it out there that on 2/15 in Monday Musings – Vol 23 I would like to request GLOBAL WARMING do what it’s suppose to to: warm the globe. And fast, please.

What is *likely* happening this week…

An egg retrieval. The time has come. It’s been a long 34 days of birth control, shots and appointments. I’ve been poked and ultrasounded (not a word LOL) more times than I ever care to be again in the future. Honestly, when you become numb to needles as someone who had a fear of needles you know it’s been a lot. I had monitoring appointment at 9am and the doctor (not mine but one of the other 2 in the clinic) said she would bet I’d trigger tonight for a Wednesday retrieval. So I got my hopes up. Shame on me… This process is unkind. And now I have 2 more days of shots to do. Back in at 8:45am Wednesday for more blood, another ultrasound & a final decision on timing of things. I also have to go back to the specialty pharmacy and spend another $600 on 2 Ganirelix vials. I’m tired, y’all.

How I’m staying busy…

HA! I’m not? I have gotten asked a lot ‘how are you keeping yourself busy?’ or ‘how are you keeping yourself sane?’ during all of this. One day at a time. An incredibly supportive husband. The best family who is regularly checking in on me. Great friends who are not afraid to ask blunt questions and for extensive updates. In all honesty, work has been pretty dang busy so far in 2021 so my days go by quickly. The nights have drug on some but the fact it’s staying lighter longer has helped. I’ve done a lot of online browsing {not really shopping since we’re poor now. Kidding. Well, kind of not kidding…}. Instead of runs and hard workouts, I’ve shifted to hitting 10k+ steps/day with shorter walks during the days. Peloton has some great prenatal classes I’ve tried and low impact biking makes me feel like I’ve ‘done’ something. I’m feeling pretty good physically. Mentally, it’s day-by-day. Today is not a great day mentally. Hoping tomorrow I can bounce back with my attitude. Once I’m forced to basically stop everything, I have puzzles & coloring books & new books ready to occupy my time.

What we’re eating this week…

More than ever, a meal plan is a must for this week. I have no idea how I’m going to feel post-retrieval or what sort of energy/appetite I’ll have. Making sure Kyle has everything he needs is priority number one. Plus we know he wouldn’t do well if I just sent him into Trader Joe’s to grab the essentials. My doctor has recommended a very high sodium intake this week so I’m keeping that in mind with each meal. Also, since it’s below 0 in basically ever corner of the country, this post from the Fall as some great crockpot recipes!

  • Meatless Monday – Sweet Potato Gnocchi w/ Spinach, Tomatoes, Fried Egg & Feta
  • Tuesday – Crockpot Tortellini Soup
  • Wednesday – Bleu Cheese Burgers + Sweet Potato Fries
  • Thursday – Extreme Grilled Cheeses + Butternut Squash & Sausage Soup
  • Friday – this is likely retrieval day so TAKE OUT 🙂
  • Saturday – honestly, probably take out again…with a side of fries

Random Ramblings…

  • Short but to-the-point: big insurance is a flipping joke. Company insurance coverages are too. I mean over $3,000 straight out of our pocket in shots only. Who just has that laying around? Not us for sure. Maybe if insurance wasn’t such a clown show or infertility treatments weren’t viewed as ‘elective’ more people could seek out help they need. Elective my ass…
  • Watched the Framing Britney Spears documentary on Hulu last night with Kyle {thanks for your login Amber!} and dang. I mean I knew her story was sad, I’ve been in love with her since 1999, but YIKES. Just another example of a long-standing system that is messed up. And sorry but Justin Timberlake is a puke. I was always Team Backstreet Boys anyway.

Monday Musings - Vol 23

  • Our house is becoming overrun with desserts and carbs and it’s freaking me out. Between the sweets from Hy-Vee, Valentine’s Day stuff and a very unexpected but super welcomed candy bouquet delivery today, your girl is going to get THICCC. It won’t just be from the shots at this point LOL.
  • Last week I got my 2nd Kitsch silk pillowcase and y’all…I am obsessed. These are just about as amazing as the Slip ones but 1/4 of the price.
  • The bestest $15 slippers in all of the land are BACK! And available for shipping! Seriously these feel so much more expensive than they are. I’m a true 8 in shoes and I wear a medium in these.
