My style tends to fall more on the classic or casual end of the fashion spectrum and I usually try and steer clear of anything that I feel appears too ‘girly.’ Lately, however, I’ve found myself being persuaded to try on more feminine pieces. Besides a rare peplum top, you won’t find a ruffle in my closet; because to me ruffles tend to scream childish or totally 80s! When I saw this Clu top (totally an unknown brand to me at the time–but I’m loving this sweatshirt and this plaid of theirs!) I had my interests peaked because I was initially looking for a solid, crew neck, heather grey t-shirt. I honestly didn’t even notice the white ruffled bottom until I was inside the dressing room and I almost skipped trying it on! Something made me decide ‘what the heck’ and I can say that my thoughts towards a ruffle {ever-so-slightly} were altered. I felt like the unexpectedness made it unique but the coloring kept it practical and subtle enough for repeated wear, so home with me it went.

I may or may not have forgotten about this gem so when thumbing through my tops, I noticed this and felt it was the perfect option for an impromptu dinner date. Wanting to dress it up a bit, I added a heeled sandal in a similar shade of grey, a fun pendant necklace and this GREAT fitting pair of skinnys. The mid-rise is perfect to keep everything ‘in’ without feeling like a trendy high-rise. In my opinion this ruffled top would look equally as good with a pair of distressed jeans & slides as it would with pencil pants & pumps for work.
